Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer wholesale or trade pricing for gyms and businesses?
Yes — we offer trade pricing for gyms, fitness centres, schools, government organisations, and other businesses. To apply for a trade account, complete the wholesale account request form.

A product I want is out of stock. When will it be available again? 
If a product is out of stock on our website, it typically means we are awaiting the next shipment which can be anywhere from a few days to (normally) a maximum of 12-weeks away. 

The best way to stay updated is to click the 'Notify Me When Available' button on the product page — we will email you as soon as it lands.

Can I place an order for an out-of-stock product and have it reserved for when it arrives?
Unfortunately we're not able to take pre-orders or hold stock of out-of-stock items. We recommend clicking the 'Notify Me When Available' button on the product page so you're first to know when it's back in stock.

Can I get a shipping quote for my order?
Yes. To get a quote, add the items you want to your cart. Progress to the shipping option, and the website will automatically generate shipping costs for you. Following this process doesn’t lock you into purchasing; you can always exit the page back into your cart or our website.

How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is calculated automatically at checkout — simply add your items to your cart and proceed to the checkout to see the exact cost for your address before you pay.

For large or heavy items (weight plates, benches, rigs, gym machines), freight costs can be higher, particularly for South Island, rural, and remote addresses. The most accurate way to get a freight cost is to go through checkout. You won't be charged until you confirm your order.

Please note: Orders containing items over 25kg, or large item orders shipped via freight carrier, may incur an additional residential delivery surcharge of $40.25 if your address is residential. If this applies to your order, we will contact you after checkout to arrange payment of this fee before dispatch.

Want to avoid the surcharge? You can avoid the residential surcharge by either providing a commercial address or by collecting your order from your nearest Mainfreight depot. You can search the closest depot to you either using Google maps or with the Mainfreight company directory.

Do you charge extra for rural or South Island deliveries?
We don't add surcharges ourselves — shipping costs are set by the freight carriers we use and passed on directly to you.

That said, New Zealand's freight and courier companies charge high and often inconsistent rates for rural deliveries. Combined with the huge range in size and weight across our product range, this makes it difficult to calculate exact shipping costs upfront. Freight to rural addresses and South Island destinations is also significantly more expensive than urban North Island delivery.

When you place an order, you may see a notice at checkout advising that rural addresses may incur additional charges. If your order is affected, we'll get in touch as soon as possible after you've placed your order to advise of any additional fees. In most cases you'll have the option to collect from your nearest Mainfreight depot at no extra cost.

If you're not able to pay the additional fees or arrange depot collection, we'll offer you a full refund, less any non-refundable credit card processing fees.

The most accurate way to get an upfront shipping estimate is to add your items to your cart and go through to checkout — you won't be charged until you confirm your order.

How long does delivery take?
Orders placed before midday Monday–Friday are usually dispatched the same day from our Birkdale, Auckland warehouse. Delivery timeframes after dispatch:

Auckland: typically next business day
North Island (main centres): 1–3 business days
South Island (main centres): 2–5 business days
Rural addresses: add 1–3 business days

These are estimates only — courier delays can occur, particularly around public holidays and peak periods. You will receive a tracking number once your order has been dispatched.

If your order hasn't arrived within the expected timeframe, please contact the courier company directly using your tracking number to query the whereabouts of your parcel. They will provide you with a case number — if the issue remains unresolved, please pass this case number on to us and we'll assist from there.

Does Solid Strength Equipment ship outside of New Zealand?
We do not currently ship outside of the country for retail orders.

If you own a gym, fitness studio, or personal training business and would like to purchase our equipment, please get in touch! We’ve supplied gyms in Samoa, Rarotonga and Tonga and are more than happy to help.

Where are you located?

We operate out of a warehouse in Birkdale, Auckland. Our showroom (appointment only) is located inside of CrossFit Birkenhead in Birkenhead, Auckland.

Can I pick up my order?
Yes! We offer free pickup from our warehouse in Birkdale, Auckland.

Once you've placed your order online, email us at sales@solidstrengthequipment.co.nz or call us at 021 971 237 to arrange a pickup time. Please do not arrive without arranging a time in advance, as we need to have your order prepared.

Our warehouse is located at 300 Beach Haven Road, Shed 4, Birkdale; same driveway as Boat Haulage.

We are not open for pick-ups on weekends or public holidays.

I’ve ordered a pre-order item. How will I know when it’s ready for pick-up or when it’s being sent?
Once your items have arrived at our warehouse, we’ll change your order status to ‘Preparing to Dispatch/Awaiting Pick & Pack’ or to ‘Awaiting Pick-up’. You’ll automatically receive an email when this happens, so please use an email you regularly check when creating your SSE account.

What’s your return policy?
If you’ve changed your mind and no longer want or need an item, you can receive a refund for the total amount minus credit card fees — as long as your order hasn’t been shipped or picked up yet.

If you’ve already received your order and would like to return it, it must be unused and in the original packaging. Get in touch to let us know you want to return your purchase; the purchaser is responsible for the costs of returning the item(s).

Can I request an item you don’t currently sell?
Yes! We’re always looking for ways to expand our product range. If you’re looking for a product that we don’t sell yet, please use the contact page or Livechat function to ask us about it.

How can I ensure that I’m buying high-quality products?
We got our start in the fitness equipment import industry in 2009 with our CrossFit gym (CrossFit Birkenhead), which is still going strong on the North Shore! As gym owners ourselves, we understand the importance of quality. Every product we sell has been tried and tested in this commercial setting and is used by our members everyday.

Which bumper plates fit which barbells?
All of the bumper plates we sell fit all of the barbells we sell.

Which collars fit which barbells?
All of the collars we sell fit all of the barbells we sell.

Are your barbells, plates, and collars all Olympic standard size?

Yes, all of our barbells, plates, and collars are Olympic standard size — 50mm (2-inch) — the same as what you’ll find in commercial gyms. The exception to this is our Pump Set System.
