Flooring
Plan gym flooring around the activity in each area, the existing subfloor and the room’s dimensions. Solid Strength’s range includes rubber tiles and rolls, turf, jigsaw mats, lifting platforms and drop mats. These formats suit different layouts, so start with how the space will be used before choosing the finish. Rubber gym tiles help protect equipment and make a gym more comfortable to train in.
Match the floor to the work done on it
Draw the room and mark where equipment, movement areas and doorways will sit. Tiles, rolls and turf have different joins and cutting requirements. Assess separate lifting platforms and drop mats for their specific use; they should not be assumed to replace flooring across the whole room.
- Review each product's stated thickness, dimensions and coverage
- Check installation instructions and suitability for the existing subfloor
- Consider surface finish, cleaning guidance and transitions between areas
Calculate the layout, not just the square metres
Measure the usable area carefully, then plan the layout of full pieces and cuts. Account for corners, columns and irregular edges rather than ordering from floor area alone. Check door clearance and changes in finished floor height. Transition strips must match the selected thickness and layout. If the room has special acoustic, structural or building requirements, seek advice for that installation instead of treating a flooring thickness as a guarantee.
If noise is a concern, consider 20mm flooring tiles and drop mats in the lifting area. Choose the setup around the way the space will be used, and follow the product-specific installation guidance.
Frequently asked questions
How many rubber flooring tiles do I need?
Use the stated coverage of the exact tile, then map the room dimensions to its layout. Allow for cuts and unusable offcuts where necessary. Confirm how many tiles or square metres each order unit represents.
Will thicker gym flooring make the room soundproof?
Do not assume that thickness alone delivers sound isolation. Results depend on the building, subfloor, installation and activity. Review the flooring's stated purpose and seek advice for any specific noise or structural requirement before buying.
