Buying guide

Calisthenics buying guide

Set up a calisthenics space around the bodyweight movements you actually practise. Compare parallettes, rings, pull-up equipment, bands and weighted accessories by usable height, hand position and room to move. The right next piece is one that supports your skills without swallowing the training area.

Start with the position you need to train in

Floor-based work and suspended work need different equipment. Low parallettes can suit sessions close to the floor; taller designs create a different working position. Rings and pull-up equipment require an appropriate support. Measure the space through the intended movement, including where your feet and legs travel.

  • Compare parallette height, handle dimensions and base footprint
  • Confirm hanging height and structural mounting requirements for rings or bars
  • Choose bands by stated resistance and intended use, not colour alone

Add load only when it serves the setup

A weight vest and a dip belt place additional load differently, so choose for the specific movement and setup. Check fit, loading method and any required weights or connectors. Leave enough clear floor space to enter and exit the exercise position. In a compact room, removable equipment and a defined storage spot can be more practical than another permanent station.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose low or high parallettes?

Choose according to the skills you intend to practise, the clearance you need and how the handles feel. Compare the actual dimensions and permitted uses of each model; height names alone are not enough to plan the setup.

Can I set up calisthenics equipment without wall mounting?

Floor-based items such as suitable parallettes do not need a suspended installation. Rings, suspension trainers and some pull-up equipment still require an appropriate anchor. Check each item’s requirements rather than assuming the whole collection is freestanding.
